Is it just me, or do we need a little more humor in the conversation about the coal industry? I recently heard a joke about a coal miner who kept talking about how bright his future was — until his boss pointed out it was just the mine’s lights. It’s funny because there’s such irony in that optimism, given the need for better reclamation and water management practices these days.
And it’s true there’s some dark humor in mining; maybe we ought to start a ‘light-hearted’ campaign for better practices! I mean, coal miners can really shine a light on important issues, just like their own futures need a little bit of a spark. What other jokes have you heard that play on this irony?
