Leaky vent bag, spinning bolts

Last night on 560E we lost most of our air when the quick-connect on the 24-inch vent bag started whistling; anemometer at the face wouldn’t climb past 0.5 m/s, and meanwhile two split sets kept spinning under mesh because the holes were glazing while we rushed the cycle. Anyone running a coupler brand or strap setup that stays sealed on dusty bag, and do you hold the pull test/torque until the air’s back or just shotcrete and come back later?

Had the same on a 24-inch bag — ditched the quick-connect for stainless Dixon camlocks with a double-lip EPDM gasket and a 2-inch ratchet over a short rubber sleeve glued to the bag. Quick wipe and a shot of belt dressing keeps it sealed on dusty cloth and the whistle stopped (https://www.dixonvalve.com). When holes glaze, we mist and brush, drive the split sets 100 mm shorter, still hold the pull test, and if it wants to spin under mesh a pipe wrench on the collar for the first hits makes it bite.

Quick fix when our 24-inch bag started “whistling”: glued a 6-inch-long neoprene cuff on the bag end with 3M 80, wiped the lip damp, then ran twin Norma GBS T-bolt clamps plus a short safety strap — stayed sealed on dusty fabric. Camlocks like @viclewi said are great, but if you can’t swap hardware mid-shift this gets you through. For the spinning split sets, a quick water squirt and dropping the bit 0.5 mm stopped the glazing; don’t bother pull-testing until the air’s back or you’ll chase false lows.

I’ve stopped the “whistling” on a dusty bag by wrapping a 6–8 in band of self‑fusing silicone tape around the cuff, sliding the coupler on, and cinching one over‑center buckle; the tape bonds to itself, stays grippy with fines, and peels off clean when you swap. Took under two minutes and bumped face air back over 0.5 m/s; if it’s wet, give the first wrap a quick wipe or it won’t bite. If you’re out of silicone tape, a strip of inner tube works in a pinch but doesn’t hold as long.

Swapped the quick-connect for a beaded hose stub and cinched a 3/4 in BAND‑IT strap over a short PU cuff; a light rub of rosin on the cuff stops the ‘whistling’ on a dusty bag and kept us above 1.0 m/s at the face after dropping from 0.5. For the glazing, we mist the holes and spin a fresh bit, then still pull‑test to 6 t before mesh loads.
