When mining meets land reclamation humor

Is it just me, or does anyone else chuckle when they hear about the latest mining project promising to ‘restore the land’? I’ve seen some crazy attempts at land reclamation, like a mining site turned into a golf course. Maybe they’re just looking for mineral-rich soil to make their fairways greener?

I get what you mean about the humor in companies claiming they’ll ‘restore the land’! I worked on a project where we turned an old mining site into a small nature reserve, but it took way more resources and time than expected. It’s a great idea in theory, but sometimes the execution falls short — what’s next, a mining theme park?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

And totally! I was skeptical when I heard about that golf course too. Restoring those areas seems like just a PR stunt sometimes; I mean, how can you ‘restore’ a place with that much heavy machinery running around?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

And it’s funny how they market these projects; turning a mining site into a golf course really makes you wonder if the greens are just a cover-up for the brown. @timothy2584, do you think any of those efforts benefit the environment in the long run?
